Here’s the dilemma, I can write my own blog or get paid to write a client’s blog. I’m the shoemaker whose kids have no shoes! So how do I solve this? My organized self tells me to give up 15 minutes of personal time three times a week and write my blog. My spirit says that I need to fill my soul too. My physical self says get out and exercise. I could go on, but it seems that my organized self is outnumbered! But, I will try to find those 15 minutes!

Breaking The Ice

Being shy, it’s always been tough for me to break the ice when meeting a new person. My typical opening is “What do you do?” So what do I say when I can’t ask them about what they do (Your not supposed to do that at Successful Thinkers)? Last week I heard the answer. At a networking function, my friend went up to a vendor, introduced herself and said: “Tell me more about you!” How simple is that! I teach that process in some of my seminars, but never thought to use it myself. Another case of the shoemaker’s kids having no shoes. Moral: answers are as close as being observant.

Oh To Get Rid Of This Cold

This cold has been visiting me for two weeks now. I’ve served it many eviction notices, but it just keeps moving around in my body. Evict from one part, it moves to another. Now it’s in my nose, maybe I’ll sneeze it out! It sure makes me appreciate good health. I’m having to say that I’ll get to it when this cold leaves. No fun. No networking. No work! Projects waiting.

Oh to be feeling well! Here I am sitting at my desk drinking tea and sucking on cough drops. It’s been a long two weeks of having this virus travel to various parts of my body, making it difficult to work and play. So, I’m telling it to be gone already. Tomorrow will be a great day–free of tissues, cough drops and lemon tea. Back to work tomorrow!

When Technology Calls You Stupid

Okay, this weekend’s fight with technology was a little too much. We had to master the “diaper system” and coffee pot. Remember when we used to use a diaper pail? Lift the lid, put the diaper in, close lid. It was simple and easy. Now you have to put the diaper on the disc and figure out that you pull the handle all the way to the other side and the diaper will automatically drop into the pail. What was wrong with just lifting the lid?? I won’t go into the coffee pot, but what’s wrong with an on/off switch period? And don’t get me started on smart phones. We upgraded our Droids before we left on vacation last summer and spent the 5 1/2 weeks learning how to use them! What we found out was that the tech support at the cell company and manufacturer don’t know how to work them either. So what has this got to do with business? What do you do when you come up against a piece of technology that you need, but tends to tell you you’re stupid now and then? Resist smashing it to bits, calm down, read the manual, call tech support and sooner or later you will figure it out for yourself. Yes, you will overcome. After all we are now disposing of our grandkids diapers appropriately, making good coffee and have mastered the smart phones!

WHEN LIFE GETS BUSY

During September and early October I felt like I was running in circles just to keep up. But, keep up with what? Family, work, volunteer work? It doesn’t matter, I just decided that I would go back to networking and client appointments only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. That will help me do the work I get and do this blog on a more regular basis. It’s 8:30 p.m. and time to relax.

That’s the name for my new “Coffee And Tea Without Me” home-study e-course–which will hopefully be available at the end of this week. I’m excited about this and want to share my knowledge with everyone, specifically business owners and professionals who want to write their own marketing text. We all can’t be perfect at everything, and sometimes we need a bit of education to make our efforts successful. That’s why I wrote the three-course series. It was fun to do and I’m anxious to share it with you and your business associates. It will be previewed and sold at the E-Women’s Summit on September 28.

Monday always seems to start off slowly, but then builds to a fast pace. How do you prepare for the beginning of the work week? Here are some suggestions:

1. Go over your calendar on Sunday evening. That will get your brain focusing in on tasks, meetings, etc.

2. Exercise first thing in the morning. Get your body and mind moving.

3. Do some follow up calls. That’s a great way to put the week in perspective.

Not Regular But Blogging

I’m sure you all know how difficult it is to create a new, good habit and how difficult it is to lose an old, bad habit. Well, my new, good habit is blogging, and my old, bad habit is, you know, not blogging. A few weeks ago, I promised to continue blogging. I can honestly say that I have continued, but not with the discipline I hope to achieve. But then, we are always overcoming something in our lives aren’t we? If it’s not blogging, it may be fear of public speaking–which I overcame years ago–or some other thing. We transform habits through discipline and need. I need to promote my new home-study E-courses on writing marketing text that sells. Therefore, I’m blogging. To create a new habit, we have to dangle a prize in front of us–an attainable prize. If we want it bad enough, we will work for it! And, I’m going to work at getting these courses out to business owners and professionals who can benefit from the education.

Or should my title be: “A New Week Begins?” It really doesn’t matter. The weekend actually ended up being great. I visited with two great friends, walked a mall, bought an item on sale (always lifts my spirits to get a good sale!) and our friends we were supposed to be camping with came to spend Sunday evening with us. Hubby is walking again–feeling much better. So what has all this to do with today’s blog? Just that sometimes disappointment leads to joy. I’m a firm believer that things happen for a reason, make the best of it. Today, I’m off to a Successful Thinker’s meeting and hopefully meet with a client afterward (he had car trouble this morning). This afternoon, I have to work on my home-study e-courses. They need to be put on DVDs, labeled and jewel cased. I’m so excited about being able to have so many people access this knowledge. More on that soon.
